The village of Villar d’Arène is an absolutely beautiful traditional alpine village which has had significant investment into lovingly restoring it over the past five years. The former mayor – mountain guide Xavier Crêt – has had a progressive vision to create a living vibrant community, set up so that visitors can experience all the French alps has to offer, without compromising the traditions and heritage. A full summer arts and heritage programme is in place from local fairs to outdoor classical music.
Villar D’Arene has two ski lifts. Perfect for kids and lazy afternoons. It’s in the trees and catches the snow. It also has a ski de fond (nordic/cross country) network and marked raquette (snow shoeing) routes. There are good day ski touring opportunities from the village.
